Asking for a Google review works best as a short text sent the same day. Customers are more likely to leave one when you ask and it takes under a minute. These Google review request texts make both easy.
First, get your Google review link
Google lets you create a short link and a QR code for your reviews. Sign in to your Business Profile, choose Read reviews, then Get more reviews. Copy the link or save the QR code.
Google says QR codes can only be made from a computer. Customers also need a Google Account to post.
A Google review request text for after the job
Send this the same day, ideally before you leave the street.
Hi [name], it's [your name] from [business]. Thanks for having us out today. If you have a minute, a Google review helps other locals find us and tells us how we did. Here's the link: [link]
An email the next day
Subject line: How did we go?
Hi [name], thanks again for choosing [business]. We'd value your honest feedback. A short Google review takes about a minute: [link]. If anything wasn't right, reply to this email and we'll sort it out.
One reminder
Send this once. If you can see who has already left a review, remind only the others. Never choose customers by how happy they seemed.
Hi [name], a quick reminder in case the first message got buried. If you'd like to leave a review, here's the link: [link]. No worries if not. Thanks again.
A line on the invoice
Put it at the bottom of every invoice or receipt, with the link or QR code.
Happy with the job? A Google review helps other locals find us: [link or QR code]
A card or van sticker
Keep the words few: "Scan to leave us a Google review." Google suggests printing the QR code for display at your premises or on receipts.
How to ask for Google reviews so people reply
Keep it personal, with a name and a thank-you. Give one link and one action. Invite honest feedback, not a rating. Send it while the job is fresh and the customer can see the result.
Reviews also feed local search, where customers compare businesses on the map.
What to leave out
- "Please leave us five stars." Google's policy says merchants must not ask for specific content or try to influence the rating.
- "Get 10% off your next job for a review." Google prohibits offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews.
- "If you were happy, please review us." Ask everyone. Google says businesses must not selectively ask for positive reviews.
- Pressuring people to review on the spot. Google says merchants may not require or pressure customers to leave reviews while on the premises.
The full guide to Google reviews explains the rules in more detail. Health practitioners should read its Ahpra section first, because the rules for replying and advertising are stricter.
Policies change, so check the current text before you rely on this summary.
